Technical Director Genetics Lab Position in Detroit, Michigan

Detroit Medical Center is seeking a skilled professional to fill the position of Technical Director for their Genetics Laboratory in Detroit, Michigan.
About the Role:
The Technical Director will oversee the technical operations of the Genetics Laboratory, ensuring the accuracy and quality of tests performed. This includes developing and implementing technical policies, systems, and procedures, as well as providing recommendations and input to policies, procedures, and systems for other DMC laboratory functions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement technical policies, systems, and procedures for the Genetics Laboratory.
- Provide recommendations and input to policies, procedures, and systems for other DMC laboratory functions.
- Cooperate with Site Medical and Administrative Directors by providing technical assistance for diagnostic testing performed within the Medical Genetics Laboratory.
- Participate in development and structure of Medical Genetics Laboratory's technical objectives; assist in development of specific short-term and long-range plans and programs including supporting budget and cost information.
- Ensure validity, accuracy, and analyses of all tests performed within the Medical Genetics Laboratory.
- Perscribe appropriate test methods and ensure strict adherence to quality control programs within the Medical Genetics Laboratory.
- Participate in proficiency surveys to evaluate the Medical Genetics Laboratory's performance.
- Conducts and directs examination of new techniques and methods in order to determine appropriate changes to improve quality, reduce costs and enhance efficiency.
- Directs technical training programs as required for employees, new employees, medical technology students, medical students, and/or residents.
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess a PhD in Life Science relevant to Biochemical Genetics, e.g., Biochemistry, Genetics, etc. Previous experience in a clinical laboratory, including administrative and managerial experience in technical activities, is desirable. Board certification or Active Candidacy by the American Board of Medical Genetics in Clinical Biochemical Genetics, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Cytogenetic, or Clinical Molecular Genetics is required.

Salary:
We estimate the salary for this position to be around $120,000-$150,000 per year, based on the location, job description, and industry standards.
