This role is an exciting opportunity to shape VHB's future in the Metro DC area. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering new real estate projects, driving business development through your network and connections, and collaborating with corporate leadership across markets, service lines, and offices.
The successful candidate will oversee the implementation of strategies to create sustainable and industry prominence for the real estate market in Metro DC, working closely with VHB's Metro DC office leadership. You will leverage your demonstrated private sector real estate market connections with developers, architects, brokers, and attorneys to drive business development activities, identify, position, win, and execute projects in the DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland metropolitan areas.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver new private sector real estate work leveraging existing relationships with area developers and architects, prioritizing sectors such as mixed-use, transit-oriented development, multi-family housing, manufacturing, office, industrial, higher education, hospitality, healthcare, and sports facilities.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of permitting and entitlement processes, as well as local zoning.
- Present in front of local boards and commissions for approvals.
- Contribute to the steady growth of VHB's Metro DC Land Development practice, focusing on the real estate market.
- Work with a team of professionals to develop site/civil engineering plans and specifications for various real estate projects.
- Develop new project opportunities and manage proposal submissions.
- Responsible for project financial performance and client relations.
- Support the preparation of real estate project design and permitting documents.
- Review drawings and specifications documenting the systems designed.
- Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues.
- Understand the Metro DC permitting and entitlements process to obtain project approvals.
- Supervise design team activities during construction administration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (such as Landscape Architecture or Planning).
- 15+ years of professional civil engineering experience focusing on land development, civil/site engineering, landscape architecture, or planning.
- Professional Engineering or AICP license preferred (or equivalent certifications if LA).
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication, and leadership skills.
- Self-motivated with attention to detail and ability to think critically.
- Lead and participate in project delivery, maintain and build client relationships.
- Knowledge of and experience in all aspects of site/civil engineering for residential, mixed-use, transit-oriented development, industrial, and commercial site design including permitting, grading and drainage design, utility design, and site and roadway layout in a predominantly urban environment.
- Thorough understanding and demonstrated experience with the typical land entitlement process in Metro DC, including permitting at the local, state, and federal level.
- Track record of significant interaction and relationships with clients, local, state, and federal agencies and staff, assisting clients on the repositioning, development, re-development, and expansion of complex commercial, industrial, and residential sites to meet market demand, and leading an integrated design team to maximize development capacity of sites, meet development milestones, and critical opening day schedules.
The estimated salary for this position is $185,000, taking into account factors such as job responsibilities, location, and industry standards. Additionally, VHB offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes flexible, hybrid work arrangements, diverse and inclusive culture, and opportunities for career growth and learning.
We are VHB - an innovative team of engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries.
