Job Title: Senior Controls Engineer

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering (WM) is a 100% employee-owned ESOP and one of the largest and most well-established engineering companies in the United States.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Controls Engineer to join our team in Austin, TX. This individual will be responsible for providing team leadership in delivering automation systems for a wide variety of industries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of automation systems
  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians in identifying requirements, developing specifications, and implementing/testing/commissioning/qualifying automation solutions
  • Develop and maintain control system architecture, selecting components, detailing schematic diagrams, and system documentation
  • Program controllers (PLC, DCS), process visualization (HMI/SCADA), and develop databases for archiving/displaying historical system data
  • Implement and commission control systems at client facilities
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including project definition and requirements, status reporting, process control sequence of operations, and standard practices and procedures
  • Lead and mentor less experienced engineers and technicians
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Greater than 10 years of experience in the design and implementation of automation systems, including PLC, DCS, and HMI/SCADA platforms
  • Experience in industries such as Semiconductor, EV, Life Sciences, Building Automation, and Food and Beverage
  • In-depth understanding of PLC hardware/software platforms, including Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Schneider
  • In-depth understanding of HMI/SCADA hardware/software platforms, including Inductive Automation Ignition, Wonderware ArchestrA System Platform, Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View, and Siemens
  • Experience in the design of electrical schematics, including power distribution under 480VAC, control panels, and associated NEC references
  • Technical writing and communication skills
  • Leadership and mentoring experience
