Learning and Development Specialist

Serendipity Center Inc is a leading therapeutic education institution offering a holistic approach that integrates mental health, special education, wellness, and transition readiness. We empower students who need extra time, attention, and skill development to reach their full potential. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dedicated Therapeutic Teacher to help guide our educational and administrative efforts.
Main Responsibilities:- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the mental health team and other stakeholders.
- Create and adapt learning activities and materials to support instructional goals and promote pro-social functioning.
- Evaluate student progress regularly, providing data-driven insights for IEP meetings and adjustments to instruction.
- Maintain knowledge of each student's skills, strengths, and challenges, applying this expertise to plan and instruct effectively.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals on behavioral interventions and protocols.
- Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture emphasizing safety, respect, and creative problem-solving.
- Manage student behavior using adapted discipline protocols, making adjustments as needed to maximize learning and independence.
- Evaluate outcomes of instructional approaches, adjusting methods to optimize student growth.
- Document attendance, grades, credits, and lesson plans accurately, tracking progress on IEP goals and behavioral contracts.
- Facilitate Core Group sessions, teaching life skills such as goal setting, self-management, planning, and effective communication.
- Provide coaching and support to students, fostering a professional and respectful rapport.
- Protect confidentiality of student and family information, reporting suspicions of child abuse or endangerment as required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, plus a Fifth-year college program certificate in Special Education or equivalent experience.
- Certification/Licenses: Current Oregon Teaching License or pending licensure from another state; CPI certification preferred but can be obtained on the job.
- General Skills: Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to present information effectively to various audiences.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in basic software applications.
- Physical Demands: Ability to perform physical management techniques, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and frequent bending, reaching, and twisting.
This position directs classroom staff activities but does not involve appraising performance, hiring, or disciplining employees.
Work Environment:The role requires occasional exposure to outside weather conditions and moderate noise levels.
