Patient Porter Position-Full-time/ Supporting-Audie Murphy VA Medical Center

As a Patient Porter, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care at the Audie Murphy VA Medical Center. Your primary responsibility will be to transport patients safely and efficiently throughout the campus, ensuring their comfort and well-being at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, family members, and staff
- Transport patients to various locations within the campus, including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and diagnostic departments
- Assist patients with navigating the campus, providing information and guidance as needed
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during transportation, using safe patient handling and movement techniques
- Collaborate with nursing and pharmacy staff to transport patients to and from appointments and procedures
- Support the medical floor/units in transporting labs and urgent STAT labs to facilitate care in Code Blues and DAART team responses
- Provide postmortem care for transporting deceased patients to the morgue
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 6 months experience in a patient transporter role
- Must be a US Citizen or legal resident of the United States
- Must be fluent in English, both spoken and written
- Position requires being on feet for the majority of the shift and the ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to walk up to 10,000 steps per shift while pushing/pulling occupied wheelchairs or stretchers
- Must be able to work in Microsoft Excel
- Must be able to handle a busy information desk, including answering multiple phone lines while entering information into a spreadsheet
- Must have a valid driver's license that has no suspensions and be able to drive a golf cart
- Must have an unrestricted driver's license in the state in which you will be working
- Candidate cannot have any moving violations, at-fault accidents, or DUI/DWI arrests within the past three years
