Diagnostic Imaging Faculty Position
The Department of Clinical Sciences at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for an assistant or associate professor of diagnostic imaging (DI).
This position is on the continuous term (tenure-equivalent) track.
The successful candidate will join a friendly multicultural team with 6 board-certified radiologists, 1 equine ultrasonographer, 7 residents, and 12 technicians in the Diagnostic Imaging service.
The service supports the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and serves the Hospital for Large Animals.
The Diagnostic Imaging service features one MRI suite equipped with a 3 T Siemens unit with advanced neurology and orthopedic software and a new Canon Aquilion Exceed LB providing mm slices and modified with the Qalibra system to accommodate equine and small animal patients.
The section has a fully equipped radiology and fluoroscopy suite and two C-Arms that cater to an active interventional radiology case load.
The section is also equipped with two DR small animal radiology suites, one DR large animal radiology room and one nuclear medicine suite.
Two ultrasound rooms are equipped with two Phillips and one Toshiba unit with several high frequency transducers.
The DI section works closely with the large animal ultrasound and sports medicine service, including shared rounds and research collaborations.
Clinical responsibilities include provision of diagnostic imaging service, instruction of clinical-year students, and supervision of interns and residents in all aspects of diagnostic imaging.
In addition to clinical rotation teaching, participation in pre-clinical classroom and laboratory teaching is required.
Given the number of imaging faculty, the ability to pursue specific diagnostic imaging interests, in large and small animals, exists.
The successful candidate will be supported to develop an independent or collaborative research program.
Excellent opportunities exist to build clinical and translational research collaborations with researchers on all three campuses of Tufts University, within the New England medical community, and beyond.
Clinical research is supported by the clinical research shared resource, the clinical trials office, the comparative pathology and genomics shared resource, the Animal Resources Division, and other resources such as the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
The allocation of time ranges from 24-28 weeks for clinical activity, 10-12 weeks for research and scholarly activity, ~5 weeks of formal education activity, and ~5 weeks for administrative activity, depending on the rank and interests of the candidate.
Vacation and university time off is ~5 weeks.
Candidates must hold a DVM degree or its equivalent.
Completion of an American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) or European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) approved residency is required.
ACVR or ECVDI board-certification is required at, or not later than two years following, the date of hire.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated an ability and interest in actively pursuing research and scholarly activity.
An advanced degree is considered an asset.
Research interests that align with strengths in the department or the school are considered an asset.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task in an academic environment and manage a robust caseload is expected.
Enthusiasm for, and demonstrated ability in, teaching is required.
The candidate should also possess effective communication skills, have demonstrated ability to work in a team, and be committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive community.
The appointment would be at the rank of assistant or associate professor, depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.
