Position Summary

The Therapeutic Environment Specialist will foster a safe and respectful environment that promotes recovery and well-being. This role requires de-escalating crisis situations, teaching coping strategies, and providing input into planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The key functions of this position include:
  • Embodying the INcompass Healthcare promise by consistently displaying compassion and providing exceptional care.
  • Integrating the six principles of trauma-informed care into all aspects of work.
  • Serving as a clinical support resource person to clients and their families.
  • Promoting an environment that supports a fundamental respect for all individuals and enhances the client's overall experience.
  • Facilitating interpersonal competencies such as learning adaptive coping, interaction, and relationship skills.
  • Providing individual support to clients and their families to promote a calm milieu.
  • Actively managing the milieu through regular interactions with individual clients.
  • Functioning as a role model for clients in crisis to demonstrate effective relationships and social competencies.
  • Working collaboratively with staff and the treatment team to communicate in a warm and empathetic manner.
  • Ensuring a compassionate, high-quality, and trauma-informed culture that validates clients' needs and rights.
  • Being mindful of times of increased activity or stress in the milieu to prevent escalation.
  • Redirecting unhealthy behaviors by providing feedback and alternative strategies, de-escalating clients, and providing crisis intervention techniques as needed.
  • Completing all agency documentation according to agency policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Associate degree in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred; high school diploma with experience considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Knowledge of crisis de-escalation, crisis/safety planning, and first aid.
  • Knowledge of integrated care and social determinants of health.
  • Skills in advocacy, organization, and communication.
  • Knowledge of local resources and supports.
  • Ability to effectively manage a crisis and link to necessary supports and services.
  • ASIST Training, Handle with Care training, and QPR/Mental Health First Aid certifications.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
