About the Role

As a Swim Lesson Instructor at Mt. Hood Community College, you will play a vital role in teaching individuals of various ages how to swim and ensuring their safety during lessons. Your primary responsibilities will include developing lesson plans for assigned classes, conducting swimming lessons according to American Red Cross guidelines, and maintaining a safe environment for students.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct swimming lessons for diverse age groups, from infants to adults, focusing on safety and effective learning techniques.
  2. Create engaging and structured lesson plans that cater to different skill levels and learning styles.
  3. Ensure accurate record-keeping and report completion as required.
  4. Embody a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion by promoting an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment (must be maintained throughout employment).
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or the ability to obtain within six months of hire and demonstrate four out of six strokes taught in the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim progression.

Benefits and Working Conditions

The part-time hourly position offers a competitive salary range of $19.00 - $26.00 per hour. Employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every thirty hours worked. The work schedule is variable, with regular attendance expected. As a lifeguard and instructor, you will work primarily indoors but also outdoors during summer months in a recreation facility setting.
