Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Residential Care Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive support to residents, ensuring their well-being and the upkeep of the living environment.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

This position reports directly to the Manager and collaborates closely with the Lead Residential Care Assistant on duty, fostering relationships with:

  • Residents, Manager, Lead Residential Care Assistant, colleagues, Agency Nurses, Agency Behaviorist, family members or guardians of residents, Healthcare Consultants, DDS staff, and community members.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A High School diploma or GED is mandatory.
  2. Must obtain and maintain certification for medication administration.
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  4. Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to manage confidential information.
  5. Proficiency in First Aid, CPR, PMT, Abuse/Neglect protocols, DDS Medication Administration, and other specific medical and habilitative needs of residents is required. Attendance at all mandatory training sessions and staff meetings is expected.
  6. Basic computer skills are necessary; experience with electronic health records is preferred.
  7. A valid Connecticut Driver's License and eligibility for auto insurance through Network Human Services are required.
  8. Physical capability to assist residents when necessary, including lifting and using approved adaptive equipment.
  9. Proficiency in the electronic health record system THERAP is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Engage in providing all aspects of direct resident care as outlined in individual care plans, ensuring accurate documentation in compliance with applicable regulations, including:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
  • Individual plan goal activities
  • Socialization
  • Communication skill development
  • Building meaningful interpersonal relationships
  • Self-preservation skill development
  • Habilitation skill development
  • Personal hygiene assistance
  • Transportation support
  • Serving as a positive role model
  • Leisure and recreation skill development
  • Cooking skill development
  • Implementation of behavioral plans

2. Participate in routine maintenance of the residence as appropriate within the context of home care.

3. Ensure the safety and proper management of residents' personal belongings and finances on-site.

4. Accurately document resident and residence-related electronic health records, including:

  • Periodic resident-specific status assessments
  • Daily task analysis charts for residents
  • Other daily records as required
  • Ongoing inter-staff communication in T-logs
  • Medication administration records
  • Resident attendance logs
  • Ongoing maintenance records as required
  • Additional records as directed

5. Contribute to meal preparation as part of the normal family routine, as needed.

6. Participate in ongoing staff training and meetings.

7. Uphold all residents' rights and comply with relevant legislation affecting community residences.

8. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the community residence.

9. Collaborate effectively as a constructive team member in all responsibilities.

10. Maintain confidentiality regarding resident information and records.

11. Be available to cover for colleagues during absences, including emergencies.

12. Perform other duties as assigned.
