Water Treatment Specialist

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes and a commitment to providing excellent service to our community. You will work closely with other team members to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our facilities.
This is an entry-level or continuing professional advancement position, depending on qualifications. Incumbents learn to assist and/or independently perform basic plant operator duties and then advance to the technical lead (Plant Operator III) wastewater plant operator level.
The successful candidate will obtain a State Water Resources Control Board (SCWRB) Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's license within 18 months and achieve proficiency and advance to Plant Operator III within 24 months.

To qualify for this role, you must meet one of the following requirements:
- Option A: Hold a minimum of AA degree or 60 college semester units including 15 semester unit of basic science courses.
- Option B: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent and 16 educational points directly related to wastewater treatment and two years' experience as wastewater treatment plant operator.
- Option C: Possess minimum SWRCB Grade I Wastewater Operator Certification.
Required Skills and Qualifications
You will be required to read and interpret various meters, gauges, and charts, follow laboratory sampling and testing procedures, and make mathematical calculations related to the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
You will also be responsible for performing routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery, structures, equipment, and piping, requiring knowledge of elementary mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic principles.
Additionally, you will need to work safely in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and District policies, actively participate in the team and District safety programs, and communicate effectively, listen, and work collaboratively.
You will use a personal computer and learn various computer programs, work shifts up to twelve hours long, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed, and meet the on-call requirements of the District.
You must have physical characteristics to perform the work, including sufficient strength to lift up to 50 pounds and sufficient stamina to walk several miles per shift and climb stairs.
