Job Summary

The Buyer-in-Training (BIT) position is an entry-level role in CarMax's Merchandising department. As a BIT, you will be responsible for acquiring and managing CarMax's extensive used car inventory. This includes evaluating and negotiating current market prices, understanding and assessing vehicle damage, and making financially sound purchasing and pricing decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and negotiate current market prices for used cars
  • Assess vehicle damage and make purchasing and pricing decisions
  • Conduct vehicle appraisal offers and coordinate on-site Wholesale Auctions
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and work with other departments to create Iconic Customer experiences
  • Support the execution and sustainment of new store procedures, processes, and technology platforms
Requirements
  • Ability to make independent judgments regarding important business decisions
  • Successful communications skills with internal and external customers
  • Ability to analyze market data and complete paperwork accurately
  • Flexibility to work in an indoor/outdoor environment and ability to walk or stand for long periods of time
  • Flexible work hours with shifts that may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel
