Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Care Specialist to join our team at Medix. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing high-quality care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

About the Role

The Surgical Care Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the smooth coordination of care throughout the surgical process. This includes assessing patient status, collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals, and providing timely hand-offs and effective communication during high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Safety & Advocacy:
    • Protect patients from injuries caused by chemicals, electrical equipment, and external hazards.
    • Monitor for and prevent surgical site infections.
    • Ensure no surgical items are retained unintentionally.
    • Speak up as a patient advocate when safety concerns arise.
  • Care Coordination & Communication:
    • Assess patient status throughout the perioperative care episode.
    • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Provide timely hand-offs and maintain effective communication during high-pressure situations.
  • Medication & Wound Management:
    • Administer medications according to the 8 Rights of medication administration.
    • Implement measures to ensure optimal wound healing and tissue perfusion.
    • Maintain the patient's normal temperature throughout the procedure.
  • Patient Education & Family Engagement:
    • Educate patients and families on post-op care (e.g., pain management, wound care, nutrition).
    • Involve patients and their designated support in care planning and decisions.
  • Compliance & Safety Standards:
    • Follow Universal Protocols, time-outs, and safety huddles.
    • Maintain fire and radiation safety per facility policies.
    • Practice and monitor aseptic techniques.
  • Documentation & Improvement:
    • Document care accurately and promptly.
    • Participate in quality review projects and continuous professional development.

Requirements

This role requires a graduate of an accredited nursing program with 1+ year experience as an OR, Medical, or Surgical nurse. The ideal candidate must have a current nursing license in good standing and active BLS/BCLS certification within 90 days of hire. ACLS and PALS certifications within 90 days of hire are also required.

Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on experience. Our benefits package includes 401(k) Retirement Plan, multiple medical, dental, and vision plan options, Short Term Disability Insurance, Life Insurance Plan, Weekly Pay, and Paid Sick Time Offered in WA (1 hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked).
