Safety Supervisor Job Description

At Indiana Packers, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Supervisor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment in our meat processing facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety Program Development and Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct Regular Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance.
  • Lead and Participate in Accident Investigations: Lead and participate in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses; develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Training and Education:
  • Develop and Conduct Safety Training Programs: Develop and conduct safety training programs for new hires and ongoing employee education.
  • Ensure Employee Awareness: Ensure all employees are aware of safety policies and procedures and are trained in emergency response protocols.
  • Maintain Safety Training Records: Maintain records of safety training and certifications.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Stay Current with OSHA Regulations: Stay current with OSHA and other relevant safety regulations; ensure the facility remains in compliance with all local, state, and federal safety laws.
  • Prepare and Submit Safety Reports: Prepare and submit required safety reports and documentation.
  • Coordinate with Regulatory Agencies: Coordinate with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
Risk Assessment and Management:
  • Perform Risk Assessments: Perform risk assessments and job hazard analyses to identify potential safety issues.
  • Develop Risk Mitigation Strategies: Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls.
  • Monitor Safety Program Effectiveness: Monitor the effectiveness of safety programs and recommend improvements.
Emergency Response:
  • Develop Emergency Response Plans: Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including fire drills, evacuation plans, and first aid procedures.
  • Coordinate Emergency Response Drills: Coordinate and lead emergency response drills and training sessions.
Safety Culture Promotion:
  • Foster a Culture of Safety: Foster a culture of safety through regular communication, engagement, and leadership.
  • Model Safe Behavior: Serve as a role model for safe behavior and practices.
  • Encourage Employee Participation: Encourage employee participation in safety programs and committees.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain accurate records of workplace injuries, illnesses, and incidents.
  • Analyze Safety Data: Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Report Safety Performance Metrics: Report safety performance metrics to senior management.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field OR minimum of 4+ years of experience in a safety role, preferably within the meat processing, food manufacturing or heavy industrial industry.
  • Certifications: Able to obtain Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or similar certifications.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Regulations: Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead and influence others without direct authority.
