The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee seeks a dedicated Veterinarian to oversee the care and use of animals used in research, testing, and teaching. As an Attending Veterinarian & Assistant Director of Animal Care, you will design and implement programs to ensure the wellbeing of animals used in teaching and research, providing expert guidance to research staff and animal care/use committees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement programs for the care and use of animals in research, testing, and teaching.">
  • Provide professional veterinary care to animals used in research, testing, and teaching.">
  • Design and implement policies and procedures for animal care and use.">
  • Collaborate with research staff, animal care/use committees, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.">
  • Supervise staff to ensure proper functionality and regulatory compliance.">

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Education and Experience:

">
  • ">
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from a school or college accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education, or equivalent training with Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates certification.">
  • License to practice veterinary medicine in Wisconsin or eligible to apply.">
  • Accreditation through the National Accreditation Program by the USDA/APHIS in Wisconsin or eligible to apply.">
  • License to purchase controlled substances or eligible to apply for a practitioner license.">

Skills and Qualifications:

  • ">
  • Strong communication skills and ability to organize and present information in a logical manner.">
  • Demonstrated ability to foster constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.">
  • Experience working in an AAALAC-accredited Animal Care Program.">
  • Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA).">
  • Prior supervisory experience.">

Salary and Benefits:

">

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $120,000 - $130,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. UWM offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401(k) retirement plan.
