Job Summary

As a Polysomnographic Technologist at Advocate Aurora Health, you will play a critical role in performing inpatient and outpatient sleep disorder studies. Your expertise will involve preparing and testing patients, as well as data tabulation, test scoring, and report preparation. You will work closely with physicians and patients to educate them on sleep medicine and ensure their knowledge of the testing process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Select and apply special monitoring electrodes, bands, thermistors, and other monitoring probes to appropriate areas of the patient's body.
  • Prepare positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fittings and schedule test procedures with patients.
  • Score sleep/wake stages and generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  • Implement interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention.
  • Perform procedures and therapeutic interventions, such as auto servo ventilation (SV) titrations and average volume assured pressure support (AVAPS).
  • Set up and score home sleep tests and perform polysomnographic data acquisition.
  • Follow wake procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Serve as a technical resource and role model for students and staff.

Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) registration issued by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) certification issued by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), or Registered Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorders Specialty (RRT-SDS) certification issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program.
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in a polysomnographic technician role.

Working Conditions
  • May drive between sites and be exposed to road hazards.
  • Operates all equipment essential to performing the job.
  • Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, and kneel throughout the workday.
