Affirmative Action Compliance Specialist

Job Summary
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as an Affirmative Action Compliance Specialist. This role will play a critical part in ensuring the District's compliance with Federal, State, and District Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity laws, regulations, and requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough reviews of Minority, Women-owned and Small Business Enterprises participating in District contracts and prepare related reports.
- Attend pre-construction meetings to provide information on Affirmative Action requirements and inform contractors of the review process.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, provide information on Affirmative Action requirements, and respond to inquiries.
- Review contract agreements between contractors and Minority, Women-owned and Small Business Enterprise sub-contractors to ensure adherence to requirements.
- Conduct compliance reviews, participate in construction site visits, interviews, and head-counts, and audit documentation to ensure compliance with Affirmative Action requirements.
- Investigate Affirmative Action disputes, participate in hearings as necessary, and act as a liaison between the District and community and business organizations.
- Monitor the Apprenticeship program for compliance with Affirmative Action requirements.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in business or public administration, construction management, or a field involving the review of affirmative action programs for compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Experience in monitoring and reviewing affirmative action programs for compliance with state and federal regulations may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in business or public administration, construction management, or a field involving the review of affirmative action programs for compliance with state and federal regulations.
- One year of service with the District as a Senior Administrative Specialist, Secretary, Human Resources Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Investigator, or Legal Assistant; or two years of such service as an Administrative Specialist.
- Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.
