Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Paralegal Specialist to provide broad-based support to in-house counsel in responding to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests and FOIL appeals. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, superior organizational skills, and the ability to work collegially and effectively in a team setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Corporation's Record Access Officer in responding to FOIL requests for records, including running searches for and collecting relevant material, document review, maintaining log of requests and responses, calendaring and managing deadlines, drafting and preparing both internal and external correspondence, corresponding with members of the public regarding requests, and preparing responses.
  • Assist other members of the Legal Department with legal work on an as-needed basis and upon request.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. Associate's degree with 7 years, direct relevant experience may substitute.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and superior organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collegially and effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Detail orientation.
