Job Overview

Empire State is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to manage the financial side of all federally funded programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and financial management, with experience in tracking draw requests, communicating with staff, and maintaining schedules of sources, uses, and balances.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record and track federally funded programs, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Work closely with ESD departments to provide supporting information for drawdown requests to the US Treasury.
  • Liaise regularly with staff in all ESD departments, including Loans & Grants, Small Business and Technology, and Regional Offices.
  • Monitor transfer of funds when payments are received and provide coding for the receipt of funds into ESD's PeopleSoft Financial System.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with program staff to review and reconcile project balances.
  • Assist program staff with federal reporting, as necessary.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of funding activity.
  • Prepare journal entries to record all program transactions.
  • Analyze and reconcile programmatic income and expense accounts.
  • Act as backup to the Manager of Accounting – Economic Development in entering payment request information into the New York State Statewide Financial System.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in a fast-paced accounting/analytical environment, with government or non-profit experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, with experience in accounting software systems a plus.
