Patent Attorney for Amazon's Machine Learning Products

Job Summary

Amazon's legal department is seeking an experienced patent attorney to support our Amazon Stores business and our growing portfolio of machine learning products and services. As a member of the Stores patent team, you will directly interact with the business and technology teams to launch and protect new products and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with scientists, developers, and engineers to identify protectable aspects of their innovations.
  • Work with outside counsel on the preparation, filing, and prosecution of our patent portfolio.
  • Provide direct client counseling regarding IP issues arising within the context of product development, business transactions, machine learning dataset and model acquisition, development, and use.
  • Analyze our patent portfolio and assess IP risk from third parties.

Requirements
  • 10+ years of legal experience as a patent attorney.
  • Juris Doctor and membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
  • Registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of a wide variety of technology areas, including web services, big data, machine learning, virtualization, data storage, databases, and operating systems.
  • Understanding of copyright law as applied to software, datasets, and machine learning models.
  • Ability to manage IP-related activities for many business and technology teams in different locales.
