- Completes annual competency assessments and unit inspection assignments.
- Stores and secures medications, and reviews stock for expired items.
- Places and expedites orders, verifies receipts, and receives shipments as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge of State and Federal laws related to controlled substances.
- Demonstrates proficiency with applicable Pharmacy technology and medication procurement process.
- Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking stock and removing outdated medications.
- Demonstrates proficiency in aseptic technique and IV room procedures.
- Prepares and accurately documents sterile product compounding under pharmacist supervision.
- Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains equipment and work areas according to procedures.
- Demonstrates proficiency with Hospital Information System and reviews patient information in the medical record system.
- Maintains Pharmacy files for patient medication profiles and pulls charts for pharmacists as needed.
- Participates in the training of newly hired Pharmacy Technicians.
- Answers telephone calls and triages inquiries as appropriate.
- Interacts with healthcare providers and patients, answers questions, and refers inquiries to pharmacists where applicable.
- Checks current inventory to determine drug and product orders.
- Maintenance of pharmacy technician certification and registration as prescribed by the New York State Education Department.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma and 2 years prior experience as a Pharm Tech or completion of the NYU Pharmacy Technician training program.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Strong background in the use of computers and basic Microsoft programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates Degree.
