Duties and Responsibilities
* Perform and document patient history, chief complaints, and select parts of eye exams as appropriate for new and established patients
* Interpret select parts of special eye testing and outside eye records
* Assess and plan patient care, placing orders as necessary and in coordination with the subspecialists team
* Educate patients and families with complex eye diagnoses, and advocate for patients with complex eye diseases
* Coordinate care within the department, including triage of complex and urgent eye patients and ordering of special testing
* Function as a role model for ancillary staff for all aspects of patient care, including preparation of exam rooms and equipment, work up of eye patients, and scribing
* Assist in preoperative care, including educating patients and families about pertinent eye disease, treatments, and surgical interventions
* Perform pertinent preoperative history and physical exams, and preoperative orders
* Assist in postoperative care, including removing and replacing eye bandages, assessing postoperative wounds, educating patients and families about postoperative care instructions, and placing orders
Requirements
* Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the state of Missouri with completed PA or NP education program
Qualifications
* Highly skilled and experienced Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with a strong background in Ophthalmology
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
* Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize patient care and manage complex situations
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with a focus on providing high-quality patient care and achieving excellent patient outcomes
