Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Port Engineer to join our team at Saltchuk Marine Shared Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the operational readiness, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of our tug fleet. This includes managing vessel costs, marine personnel, and equipment inspections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and review planned maintenance programs for vessels.
  • Evaluate and initiate corrective action on emergency/casualty repairs for vessels.
  • Monitor all engineering work-in-progress for planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs for vessels.
  • Interface with operations personnel to advise on actions to be taken, such as shutting down a vessel or continuing its operation.
  • Determine methods, lengths, and costs of necessary vessel repairs.
  • Train engineers on vessel systems, repairs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate and initiate proper corrective action to eliminate additional expenses to maintenance and repair budgets.
  • Provide assistance for inspections of vessels by regulatory groups, including USCG and ABS surveyors.
  • Responsible for the remedy and repair of all deficiencies, operational and administrative.
  • Must be able to understand and effectively operate SAP software.
Requirements
  • High school education desirable, with preference given to those with maritime academy or college degree.
  • 3-5 years as a tugboat engineer or shoreside management/ocean towing preferred.
  • Must possess a valid USCG engineer's license or Designated Duty Engineer (DDE) license.
