Job Summary

We seek a highly skilled Senior Motor Control Engineer to lead the design and implementation of advanced motor control algorithms and embedded software for our motor controllers. These cutting-edge technologies will be integrated into various aircraft systems, including propulsion and flight control actuation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Closed-loop position control of permanent magnet motors, incorporating redundant architectures and multi-phase motors controlled from servo drives.
  • Traditional and sensor-less control of permanent magnet propulsion motors, including inverter modulation techniques, current control, trajectory control, fault detection, and efficiency optimization.
  • Optimization of motor controls algorithm using MATLAB and PLECS.
  • Testing and integration with actuator test rig.
  • Dynamometer testing and interpretation of data for controls development, validation, and improvement.
  • Development of motor controller firmware architecture.
  • Board bring-up of next-generation motor controllers.
  • Writing interface code for sensors and digital communication.
  • Designing prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify technical constraints.
  • Developing high-quality structured bare metal software for embedded processors (e.g., ARM, PowerPC, x86).
  • Designing embedded software to meet requirements, including verification and traceability.
  • Collaborating with power electronics, motor design, and electromechanical engineers to develop motor control systems.
Requirements
  • A fast and agile learner capable of working hands-on in an exciting startup environment.
  • Ability to work on-site at Santa Ana location.
  • BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 5+ years of experience in Motor Control or related fields.
  • Familiarity with microcontroller architectures and communication protocols.
  • Prior experience with development of automotive/robotics/industrial motor drives.
  • Working knowledge of power electronic converters and inverters.
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $100,000 - $150,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additionally, you can expect:
