About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Behavioral Health Medical Director to join our team at Heartland Family Service. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the medical practice of our agency prescribers and providing psychiatric expertise for complex cases.

Job Summary

The Senior Behavioral Health Medical Director will act as the psychiatric medical director and carry a small caseload of behavioral health clients. They will also serve as an advisor for all Behavioral Health clinical programs and provide clinical supervision of agency prescribers.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with the Program Director of Psychiatric Services to oversee the recruitment, placement, and oversight of contracted or staff psychiatric personnel.
  • Provide clinical staff training and consultation to ensure high-quality care for our clients.
  • Clinical supervision of agency prescribers, including residents, APRNs, physician assistants, and psychiatrists.
  • Develop and review relevant clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and practice standards to ensure compliance with oversight entities.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure the quality of psychiatric services.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director of Psychiatric Services to enhance cooperation between relevant departments.
  • Supervise medication-assisted treatment implementation and provide clinical oversight of the program.
  • Educate the public about psychiatry as applied to department responsibilities through media contacts and public forums.
Requirements
  • M.D. or D.O. with a specialty in Psychiatry.
  • A valid license in both Iowa and Nebraska or willingness to become licensed in both states.
  • A valid DEA in both Iowa and Nebraska, as well as a Controlled Substance Registration in Iowa.
  • Completion of Waiver in Medication-Assisted Treatment.
  • Experience in the practice and values of Community Psychiatry, including the recovery model and client choice and autonomy.
  • Integrated treatment of co-occurring disorders and principles of trauma-informed care.
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment provision, including buprenorphine.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $200 per hour, which translates to approximately $3,200 per month for 10 hours of work. This compensation package reflects the importance of this role in delivering high-quality behavioral health services to our clients.
