Job Title: Cheese Production Team Member

We are seeking an experienced Cheese Production Team Member to join our team at our state-of-the-art cheese and whey production facility in St. Johns, MI. As a member of our production team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our towers, maintaining daily log sheets, and adhering to good manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate gussetters, betavacs, and conveyors to maintain tower efficiency
  • Rework misshapen blocks and blocks with missing corners back into the cowl
  • Use fingers to puncture bags and tear open when re-bagging leakers
  • Maintain a supply of 40# bags near the tower area and keep towers full
  • Understand and troubleshoot tower lights and issues
  • Cleanly collect in-process samples during startup and end of run
  • Evaluate and rework cheese within 10 minutes of leaving the table
  • Inspect and complete log sheets as required
  • Keep the tower area clean and organized
  • X-ray cheese in white tubs and transfer to TCO
  • Prepare towers for CIP
  • Rinse and drain salt whey tanks and transfer to TCO
  • X-ray white trays and transfer to TCO
  • Restock bags at the tower area for operators
  • Test metal detects every hour and record on charts/logs
  • Maintain towers at full operating speed throughout production
  • Re-bag leakers if they still hold their shape
  • Perform Tower CIP/Cowl CIP
  • Wash barrel liner clamps daily
  • Conduct environmental cleaning of the tower area
  • Perform tasks assigned by the Team Leader or Assistant Team Leader
  • Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Leadership skills to provide guidance to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
  • Solve practical problems and deal with variable situations where standardization exists
  • Prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and delegate assignments to others
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials
  • Involves moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature
  • Identify and distinguish colors, see clearly at 20 inches or closer and 20 feet or more, observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus

Travel Requirements:

Minimal travel limited within the local area

Estimated Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per year
