We are seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker to join our team in Massillon, Ohio. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in machine shop and toolroom practices, with a thorough understanding of material properties, cutting oils, grinding compounds, and other process materials. They will be responsible for setting up and operating machine tools, designing and assembling special tooling, and troubleshooting production issues.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform operations such as turning, facing, threading, drilling, reaming, boring, tapping, milling, grinding, knurling, rolling, cutting, and other precision tasks on various materials to exacting tolerances.
- Design, machine, troubleshoot, and assemble special tooling into production dies, requiring a deep knowledge of machine shop and toolroom practices, properties of materials, and principles of tool operation.
- Make repairs or alterations to end and can dies, including manufacturing replacement parts as needed, including hardened tool steel and carbide components.
- Use precision measuring instruments to assemble, fit, align, and adjust parts to precise tolerances, checking tooling inventories, setting up tool packs, measuring precision tolerances, and working with assembly setups.
- Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine required materials and machines for fabricating parts.
- Set up and operate machine tools like lathes, milling machines, and other equipment to machine parts, interacting closely with the operations team to plan, troubleshoot, and analyze production and equipment issues and concerns, developing effective solutions.
- Conduct quality checks on products according to customer requirements, utilizing their expertise in precision equipment and tool operation.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of prior experience with thorough knowledge of machine shop and toolroom practices and techniques.
- Proven competency in using micrometers, calipers, and related equipment, with the ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and parts specifications.
- Experience running precision equipment, equipment re-build, CNC programming, OD/ID grinding, and jig grinding.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
