About the Role:
This role involves facilitating daily living activities, providing direct support, and assisting consumers in training activities. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently, and possess a strong commitment to delivering exceptional care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate daily living activities such as personal hygiene, dining skills, housekeeping skills, social skills, and community access.
- Provide direct support and assist consumers in training activities as specified in ISPs and activity schedules.
- Aid in mobility as needed for those using wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
- Assist in bedroom maintenance and teach housekeeping skills and care of clothing.
- Assist with meal service, teach dining skills, and promote social skills and personal dignity during meals.
- Administer medications and treatments according to company policy.
- Be assigned as a Primary Person (P2) for one or more consumers, ensuring their wellbeing at all times.
- Attend and successfully complete in-service training sessions as scheduled.
- Serve as a role model and mentor to fellow Direct Support Professionals.
- Complete data collection, observation notes, and daily reports as directed by agency policy and procedure.
- Assist consumers in transportation as needed.
- Participate as a member of the Individual Support Team giving input toward the consumer's ISP.
- Monitor consumers' activities to ensure safety and health care practices are observed, including Universal Precaution Practices.
- Perform related duties as required or assigned to fulfill the agency philosophy and goals and objectives of the program site.
- Treat consumers with dignity and respect, promoting independence, choice, and empowerment.
- A high school education or its equivalent is preferred.
- Previous experience in supporting/assisting those with disabilities is preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- A valid driver's license and good driving record is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Satisfactory completion of criminal background checks as required by federal and/or state laws and any other post-offer, pre-employment screenings as mandated by a governing agency or the company.
