Job Summary

This recruitment is for an elementary counselor at a school site to be determined. The ideal candidate will work with and serve as a resource to elementary school students, school staff, and parents, providing comprehensive social-emotional and behavioral support services that enhance school climate and optimize the learning and social-emotional competencies of all students.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide short-term small group and individual counseling to elementary school students.
• Plan, facilitate, implement, and evaluate social-emotional learning activities and lessons in classrooms.
• Collaborate with school psychologist, guidance aides, teachers, and administrators to develop school-wide efforts to enhance school climate, build positive behavior supports, and develop student resiliency and protective factors in the school community.
• Assist in the arrangement and facilitation of necessary conferences with students, parents, and teachers.
• Provide consultation, coaching, and parent education opportunities to parents.
• Participate in development and implementation of student behavior support plans.
• Provide immediate crisis intervention services.
• Refer students and parents to appropriate social agencies when needed.
• Consult with teachers, administrators, and other support personnel relative to counseling and student support.
• Participate as a member of the site Student Study Team, site guidance teams, and Professional Learning Communities.
• Participate in District Support Services teams.
• Participate in training opportunities as directed, and seek professional development opportunities for self and team.
• Facilitate evaluation of program services.
• Maintain appropriate confidential records.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Pupil Personnel Services credential with specialization in School Counseling, School Psychology, or School Social Work. Bilingual skills are preferred (Spanish, Hmong). The candidate should have strong communication and organizational skills, be a self-starter who functions well with limited supervision, and have a strong understanding of child development and the needs of children. Competency in use of computers for word processing, data collection, and email communication is also required.
