Job Summary

The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. This includes operating CT scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient, referring and questioning orders to the Radiologist as necessary.
  • Properly identifies patients and assists them during procedures, explaining the process and documenting on appropriate worksheets.
  • Interviews patients for a complete medical history, reviewing electronic medical records to obtain pertinent clinical information.
  • Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to end, preparing and administering IV contrast as needed.
  • Evaluates the technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if necessary, recognizing abnormal anatomy and processing additional images as instructed.
  • Performs basic patient care functions, informing nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's condition and initiating life support measures as needed.
  • Operates radiology computer systems to enter orders and charge procedures/supplies, documenting contrast administration in the medical record.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology required. ARRT certification in Radiology, or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, and advanced registry from the ARRT in CT scanning within one year of hire required, in addition to current CPR certification.

Physical Demands

The CT Technologist I requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting are required during normal operation, with frequent stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling in the daily operation of the CT department.
