Job Summary

The Certified Nurse Aide - Medication Aide is a vital member of our care team at Westminster Canterbury Richmond. This role involves administering medications to residents in accordance with Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) Regulations and our facility's policies. Additionally, the successful candidate will provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), ensuring our residents receive the highest level of care and support.

Responsibilities
  • Administer medications to residents as prescribed by physicians and document accordingly.
  • Assist residents with ADLs, including bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, eating/feeding, bowel control, and bladder control, while promoting independence and ensuring proper hygiene.
  • Support residents with IADLs, such as meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, and money management, to enhance their quality of life.
  • Monitor and document residents' vital signs, intake/output, weights, and blood sugars as necessary, and report findings to the nurse in charge for follow-up care.
  • Adhere to the Individualized Service Plan (ISP) and report concerns or suggestions for changes/additions to the nurse in charge and/or manager.
  • Observe residents for changes in mood, behavior, affect, cognition, and physical changes, and report to the nurse in charge and/or manager immediately.
  • Document accurately, communicate effectively, maintain resident safety, and report any significant changes to the appropriate nurse.
  • Transport residents to appointments and activities, ensuring medical and personal commitments are met.
  • Adhere to change of shift procedure, including narcotic count, to meet regulatory compliance and communicate pertinent resident information for continuity of care.
  • Maintain VDSS educational compliance and document care provided using medical documentation systems.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Certificate to practice as a Certified Nurse Aide in the State of Virginia in good standing.
  • Registered to practice as a Medication Aide in the State of Virginia in good standing.
  • One-year experience administering medications in an assisted living facility (desired).
  • Direct experience working with geriatric or cognitively impaired residents (desired).
  • Dementia training (desired).
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification (desired).
