Civica Rx is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization established to reduce chronic generic drug shortages and related high prices in the United States. Our mission is to make medications accessible and affordable for patients.

We are a team of experienced healthcare and pharmaceutical industry leaders working together to achieve our goal. Our organization has expanded its mission beyond the hospital setting to include lowering the cost of medications at the pharmacy counter.

We have launched a sister organization, CivicaScript, to enter the retail pharmacy market partnering with Blue Cross Blue Shield entities and others with the goal of reducing select high-cost generic drugs where market forces are not working to control drug costs.

Position Summary

The Director of Business Development will lead certain business development activities for the organization, working in the generic pharmaceutical field. This includes identifying and evaluating potential opportunities and personal involvement with strategic partners.

The Director will be responsible for developing and executing business development strategies, tracking and reporting of current and new business development pipeline, and management to financial and performance objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop strategies and find business opportunities to support our mission of reducing drug shortages and making medications accessible and affordable.
  • Continually evaluate our product portfolio to meet the needs of our member hospitals and the CivicaScript mission of affordable generic medications for consumers.
  • Build and maintain strong, sustainable relationships with strategic business partners and our member hospitals.
  • Use data analysis and market research to drive decisions.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with Civica Rx's values and guiding principles.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience, including extensive experience in business development for generic pharmaceuticals and additional experience in allied fields such as supply chain, marketing, R&D, pharmacy, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking skills to analyze business opportunities, create market landscapes, and identify alternatives.
  • Skilled at prospecting business opportunities, developing and negotiating terms.
  • Work with legal to develop, negotiate, and execute contracts.
  • Use public databases like the FDA Orange Book or purchased databases like IQVIA to develop market landscapes and analyze drug markets.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to integrate new opportunities into the company.
  • Identify generic pharmaceuticals that fit Civica Rx's mission.
  • Identify sources for generic pharmaceuticals, components, and other needs of the business.
  • Identify and research potential partners.
  • Build and manage relationships with partners.
  • Experienced at negotiating business relationships with a demonstrated background in leading negotiations and closing deals.
  • Must be an energetic self-starter who can work independently with a strong work ethic and develop structure when working with new opportunities.
  • General computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and databases such as IQVIA.
  • Willing to travel, approximately 20%.
