Overview

As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our patient access services. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct quality interviews with patients to ensure compliance with patient safety rules and state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Implements scheduling, pre-registration, pre-certification, referral procurement, and insurance verification policies and procedures.
  • Ensures accurate patient identification and maintains patient safety.
  • Checks-in and accounts for patient arrival and processing time to ensure prompt service.
  • Ensures regulatory forms are completed and signed by patients.
  • Performs bed planning, reservations, pre-registration, and bed assignment.
  • Prioritizes bed assignment according to policy.
  • Reviews orders to ensure patients are in the appropriate status and level of care.
  • Initiates real-time eligibility queries and reviews responses to ensure correct plan code assignment and coordination of benefits.
  • Ensures accurate completion of Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaires.
  • Performs insurance verification and determines patient out-of-pocket responsibility.
  • Pursues upfront cash collections to assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities.
  • Verifies benefits and pre-authorization requirements.
  • Submits data timely and effectively for all treatments and procedures.
  • Ensures diagnosis data is accurate and meets medical necessity criteria.
  • Complies with patient financial responsibility and collection policies.
  • Provides patients with administrative information as directed.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Registers patients accurately in downtime mode and follows registration input procedures when the system becomes available.
  • Attempts to mediate daily scheduling, pre-registration, pre-certification, or registration issues.
  • Completes assigned work queues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as directed by supervisors or managers.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in a hospital setting.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer service-oriented.
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge.
  • Prior registration and insurance verification experience.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Patient financial services experience in a professional or hospital setting.
