About the Role:

The National Federation of Independent Business seeks a highly skilled Principal, Government Relations to join its Government Relations team. This key position is responsible for managing financial services and banking portfolios before Congress and the administration.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will establish and maintain contacts with Congressional offices/committees, communicate the organization's positions through lobbying efforts, and influence policy outcomes for the benefit of the NFIB membership. Additionally, they will lead/participate in coalitions of business organizations to promote NFIB's positions within these coalitions. The role involves conducting background research and analysis on legislation and regulations to make policy recommendations and develop legislative initiatives. Furthermore, the candidate will monitor and report on the national political climate and specific political races for potential NFIB involvement. Effective communication of NFIB's position to NFIB members and departments, the news media, and the general public is also a crucial aspect of the role. The Principal, Government Relations will be involved with NFIB Federal PAC incumbent budget planning and distribution and represent NFIB at political events.

Requirements:

A minimum of five (5) years of federal legislative experience, including a detailed knowledge of the legislative process attained by working in or with the House, Senate, or government relations, is required. Specialist knowledge of Congress and the legislative process with a focus on financial services/banking policy is also essential. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of policy and political issues through previous work and research experience and the ability to analyze legislative language and regulations and communicate succinctly. An established network of contacts on Capitol Hill and basic political campaign experience and public relations/media affairs experience are also highly valued. Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as analytical, interpersonal, and organizational capabilities, are necessary for success in this role. Service orientation, superior integrity, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and membership are also required. Experience with Microsoft Office and legislative tracking programs is a plus. A Bachelor's degree is necessary for this position.
