Med Surg Observation Unit Overview

Mercy's Med Surg Service Line is comprised of 7 specialty units that provide experience with patient populations having a wide range of diagnoses and care needs. These units house and care for patients preparing for or recovering from medical and surgical interventions. While you will have a home unit, we cross-train our nurses between the various specialties to provide a strong foundational knowledge of all types of patient conditions, comorbidities, procedures, etc.

Patient Population:
We care for a wide variety of patient populations, from cardiac patients to those with osteomyelitis. This unit is great for new grad nurses who are hesitant to jump into higher acuity. We have a nurse to patient ratio of 6:1 and 18 beds. Our UAP to patient ratio is 9:1.

Qualifications:
Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN). You must be personally responsible for obtaining and maintaining a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and meet all state board of nursing requirements. You must have American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or complete a course within probationary period. You must have ACLS and BLS or obtain within 90 days of hire.
