Job Summary

The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is seeking a highly skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Center. As a key member of our rehabilitation team, you will provide comprehensive care to patients with spinal cord injuries and disorders.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.
  • Perform routine evaluation of patients by obtaining current symptoms and complaints, observing the patient's condition, behavior, and response to treatments and/or medications.
  • Document appropriate information in the patient record and report significant deviations to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or provider.
  • Provide effective reinforcement of education to patients and/or family members in relation to common disease processes, medication, and/or prescribed treatment regimes.
  • Recognize the need for and institute cardiopulmonary resuscitation measures or other medical emergencies when indicated in accordance with established medical center policy and procedure.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
  • Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia.
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations, requiring the shifting of priorities based on emerging and changing patient/unit needs.
Working Conditions

This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate nursing procedures requiring technical skills and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
