Job Title: Master Fabricator - Metalwork Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Structural Welder to join our team at Shipyard Staffing LLC in Norfolk, VA.

About the Role:

  • This is a full-time position with a competitive salary of approximately $65,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for welding metal components of products, as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, or oral instructions.
  • You will prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or think scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Weld completion will take place in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Manual or semi-automatic welding equipment operation will be required, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
  • Mandatory requirements include manually applying filler rod to supply weld metal, cleaning or degreasing weld joints or work pieces, repairing broken or cracked parts, and filling holes.
  • Setting up and operating welding equipment, selecting proper electrodes according to metals to be joined or as instructed, and performing grinding and joint preparation for NDT processes are also key responsibilities.
  • Burning, washing, edge prepping using hand and automated equipment, flux cored inner shield and dual shield welding, along with oxy-acetylene torching, air-arc, weld-wire gas, stick and pipe flange construction or repair, and reading and understanding Chemist and Competent Persons reports will be essential skills.
