Job Title: Modeling and Simulation Electro-Optical Engineer

The USU Research Foundation is seeking a highly skilled Modeling and Simulation Electro-Optical Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing software modeling packages in support of spaceflight electro-optical sensor systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement radiometric/photometric models of EO sensors in the visible and infrared spectrum
  • Evaluate designs against mission requirements and lead trade studies, design analyses, and engineering analyses/studies
  • Conduct independent evaluations of vendor concepts, designs, and performance
  • Reduce mission concepts to fundamental elements that can be expressed as requirements
  • Communicate effectively through written reports and presentations
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including ICDs, ADDs, procedures, and reports
  • Maintain technical relationships with internal and external customers, technical staff, and management
  • Represent the USU Research Foundation at forums and meetings, with occasional travel required
Required Qualifications:
  • BS degree in a related technical field, such as physics, applied physics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, or mechanical engineering
  • 6+ years of experience with EO/IR systems, with a strong background in radiometric modeling
  • Expertise in C++, MATLAB, and/or Python programming languages
  • Experience with GLSL, OpenGL, Vulkan, or similar computer graphics frameworks
  • Strong understanding of optical principles and systems
  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and maintain technical relationships with internal and external customers
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to travel occasionally
