Job Overview

VocoVision is a leading provider of virtual interpreting services, seeking an experienced Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. This full-time, 1099 contract position offers the opportunity to work with deaf and hard-of-hearing students across Georgia in a fully remote environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time sign language interpretation in virtual classroom settings for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Interpret educational content, discussions, and interactions between students, teachers, and staff.
  • Prepare for assignments by reviewing course materials and specialized vocabulary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all interpreted information and adhere to the interpreter code of ethics.
  • Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to ensure effective communication and support for students.
  • Adapt interpreting techniques to optimize effectiveness in an online environment.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute insights related to students' communication needs.
  • Stay informed about Georgia Department of Education requirements and advancements in sign language interpreting.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Sign Language Interpreting, Deaf Education, or related field.
  • 3.5 EIPA score and Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings.
  • Proficiency in delivering remote interpreting services and familiarity with online platforms like Zoom.
  • Strong American Sign Language (ASL) skills and knowledge of Deaf culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities in both ASL and written English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a virtual environment.
  • Cultural competence to serve Georgia's diverse student population.
Location and Salary

This position is fully remote, with the ability to work from the comfort of your own home. The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience.
