Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Administrative Director of Social Services to lead our Manhattan North Borough Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the office, managing staff, and ensuring the efficient delivery of social services to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage the Manhattan North Borough office operations for all social services, including undercare, assessment, eviction, and preventive services.
  • Manage over 2000 social services cases and ensure compliance with state and agency regulations.
  • Develop and implement tracking mechanisms to monitor the formulation of all assessment plans and ensure staff adherence to regulations.
  • Provide administrative leadership and guidance to staff members, including the Deputy Director and supervisory personnel.
  • Establish standards and criteria to improve performance, quality, and productivity of the office.
  • Coordinate office functions and activities with other organizational components in MICSA, HRA, and other City Departments.
  • Oversee the Preventive Service Program and conduct scheduled field visits to monitor cases.
  • Review case records to ensure they are up to date, recertified, or closed, and contain all necessary documentation.
  • Direct the activities of the Eviction Units and identify performance deficiencies that can be improved through staff training.
  • Prepare comprehensive statistical reports on office activities for the APS Assistant Deputy Commissioner and Director of Operations.
  • Analyze, monitor, and evaluate existing programs, policies, and reports to determine their effectiveness.
  • Maintain liaison and cooperative relationships with public, private, and community agencies concerned with social services.
  • Prepare responses to audits, studies, and surveys of office operations.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience, including one year at the administrative or managerial level in a large governmental agency, business firm, civic or community organization operating in the area of social services.
  • Ability to critically assess operational issues and work independently and within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, effective leadership ability, and excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of HRA systems, including APSNet, WMS, HRA Viewer, and Lexis-Nexis.
Preferred Skills
  • Working experience with social services and providing services to high-risk populations.
  • Ability to work creatively and effectively to effect key strategies.
