Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Obstetrical Technician plays a vital role in the Labor and Delivery Unit by performing non-nursing functions. This position requires a high level of expertise and leadership skills to direct and check the work of other Obstetrical Technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and check the work of other Obstetrical Technicians to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new Obstetrical Technicians to ensure they are equipped to perform their duties effectively.
  • Conduct regular checks of labor rooms and delivery rooms to ensure they are equipped with adequate and functioning equipment and supplies.
  • Track and maintain equipment and supply inventory to prevent shortages and ensure timely replacements.
  • Set up emergency equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Welcoming patients to the unit and escorting them to their designated rooms.
  • Obtaining patient identification and creating temporary ID bracelets.
  • Transporting patients to various areas of the unit as needed.
  • Checking testing schedules and pulling patient charts.
  • Ensuring a proper and adequate supply of packs and equipment.
  • Setting up sterile delivery tables and baby units for delivery.
  • Assisting Registered Nurses with patient care in the recovery room, delivery room, and Cesarean delivery room.
  • Filing monitor strips in envelopes.
  • Washing and sterilizing instruments.
  • Transporting specimens to the laboratory.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized utility room and supply areas.
  • Responding to patient calls and answering phone calls.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience as an Obstetrical Technician, with the ability to perform complex techniques and procedures under general supervision.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS certification.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees.
  • Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
