Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health Nurse Administrator to join our team at the United States Postal Service. This role is responsible for implementing and participating in programs to provide preventative medical care and health maintenance in support of safety and health goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement programs of preventive health education for assigned territories.
  • Oversee medical contract services provided within the area assigned, monitoring quality and implementing changes as needed.
  • Maintain confidential employee medical records, ensuring current entries and preparing summaries of medical information as required.
  • Ensure employees are trained in emergency medical care procedures and resources.
  • Determine availability of wellness programs, screenings, and services in local communities and arrange for provision to employees.
  • Work with employee assistance functions to identify, refer, and follow up on employees needing these services.
  • Coordinate development and implementation of mandated health protection programs with safety function employees.
  • Develop and review crisis management plans, assisting in identifying community-based medical services to support these plans.
  • Serve on joint safety and health committees, reviewing accident reports to identify safety hazards and consulting with labor and management representatives to resolve safety and health issues.
  • Provide guidance to injury compensation specialists on work-related injuries, treatment, and physical limitations, and monitor progress of limited duty and rehabilitation employees.
  • Visit facilities to identify safety and health hazards and obtain feedback on contractor-supplied medical services.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Human Resources to ensure effective and comprehensive support, fostering a workplace of diversity, inclusion, and engagement.
  • Respond to medical emergencies in assigned facilities.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of medical care, nursing services, and health maintenance programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA-initiated health protection programs and ability to develop and implement these programs in conjunction with safety staff.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Management and ability to assist in developing and reviewing local Crisis Management Plans, locating and interfacing with community-based medical services.
  • Knowledge of the Injury Compensation Program and ability to assist injury compensation staff with work-related injuries, treatment, and physical limitations, providing medical liaison with the Office of Workers Compensation as needed.
  • Ability to monitor progress of limited duty and rehabilitation employees.
  • Ability to provide professional nursing care and assist the medical officer in scheduling and conducting special physical examinations or interviews.
  • Ability to design and implement a program of preventive health education for all employees within a geographic area.
  • Ability to oversee and supervise all medical contract services, implementing a quality control program for these services within the defined area of responsibility.
  • Ability to prepare, maintain, and update confidential employee medical records.
  • Ability to communicate with managers and supervisors on health and safety-related issues and concerns.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate communities for resources in providing regular and periodic wellness programs, such as screenings, immunizations, and surveys.
  • CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT: Applicant must possess a current Registered Nurse license from a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • Ability to foster and encourage a workplace of diversity, inclusion, and engagement.
  • SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Applicant must submit to a Background Investigation (BI) or Tier 4 investigation, which may require a questionnaire, fingerprinting for a criminal records check, and a drug test.
