Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to join our litigation team at Multnomah County. The successful candidate will provide advanced-level resources to attorneys and other staff in the areas of litigation, court rules, project management, software utilization, and training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial case research and set up physical files by gathering and organizing all initial discovery documents from various departments required for initial case review by County attorneys.
  • Identify potential witnesses, schedule witness interviews, depositions, and expert witnesses for meetings with County attorneys to prepare for and/or participate in testimony, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and/or trial.
  • Draft answer and affirmative defenses based on interviews, draft case-related pleadings, prepare case-related correspondence and communications with parties, court, vendors, experts, and witnesses.
  • Issue civil subpoenas for depositions and trials, file, distribute, and serve true copies of pleadings and exhibits accurately with the jurisdictional court, opposing parties, Court staff, and attorneys.
  • Maintain calendars for County attorneys and schedule activities, meetings, court dates, and coordinate all participants, including client representatives, witnesses, court reporters, videographers, and investigators.
  • Serve as point person for all issues related to electronic document management, provide training and technical guidance for software and hardware.
Requirements
  • Paralegal Certification, the completion of an authorized Paralegal Program, or a Bachelor's Degree approved by the American Bar Association.
  • The ability to perform the duties of the position with a minimum of two (2) years of paralegal experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in public sector municipal law.
