Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wireless Communications Research Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for conducting research and development activities in support of our Cyber Operations, Special Operations, and Homeland Protection Mission Areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct wireless communication systems engineering research activities to support our mission areas.
  • Develop innovative solutions for military and government sponsors using advanced signal processing, data processing, and machine learning techniques.
  • Apply problem-solving and analysis skills to areas related to telecommunications, remote sensing, and anomaly detection.
  • Lead the research and development of novel signal processing approaches and software prototypes.
  • Document work in formal technical reports and present findings to sponsors and the technical community.
  • Support testing of prototype and operational systems, working closely with sponsors to ensure mission success.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in wireless communications engineering.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel within the continental United States.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least five years of experience in commercial and/or government Wireless Communications Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience in implementation languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++/C, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community sponsors and programs.
  • Active Top Secret clearance or higher.
