Job Summary

The Patient Access Apprentice role at MaineHealth is the initial contact for patients in the Emergency Department, requiring exceptional customer service skills in all interactions. This position involves complete and accurate patient registration, insurance verification, medical necessity validation, identifying and collecting amounts due from the patient, entering orders, and ensuring an efficient flow of clinical, administrative, and clerical tasks. The employee must obtain patient signatures on consent and assignment forms and applicable insurance denial notices, assist with accommodations for patients with special needs, and adhere to established protocols and accuracy standards while demonstrating the Champions of Care expectations of Welcome, Listen, and Serve.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Registration and Verification: Complete and accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and medical necessity validation.
  2. Customer Service: Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in all interactions with patients.
  3. Order Entry: Enter orders accurately and efficiently.
  4. Accommodations: Assist with accommodations for patients with special needs.

Requirements

  1. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. Experience: Previous clerical healthcare and customer service experience preferred.
