Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing chemical processes for cathode active materials, collaborating with raw material teams and product teams on a regular basis;
  • Mentoring and training technicians and junior engineers to run processes, develop specifications, and analyze data; Developing process-property correlations and continuously improving processes and/or formulations;
  • Collaborating with the metrology team on sample submission and coordination;
  • Driving suppliers towards material and tool development, as well as designing out-of-the-box hardware solutions where off-the-shelf options are not available;
  • Developing/ modifying operating procedures and research reports;
  • Providing technical presentations to upper management, utilizing excellent verbal and communication skills;
  • Ensuring all safety procedures are followed and wearing required protective equipment at all times.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you'll need:

  • At least 6+ years of industry experience;
  • An advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field;
  • A deep understanding of process development, battery materials, and powder processing;
  • Hands-on experience in process integration and a proven ability to drive proof-of-concept into manufacturable processes;
  • Experience scaling up chemical processing into large commercial applications, preferably with battery manufacturing expertise;
  • The ability to interpret engineering documents related to equipment installation, such as P&ID, datasheets, control logic;
  • An understanding of powder rheology and experience with bulk powder handling and conveying;
  • Proficiency in reviewing and analyzing large data sets through known correlation methods;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, enabling effective communication with senior stakeholders, including presentations.
Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following qualifications will be given preference:

  • Scale-up of high-temperature processing, dispersions, blending, and spray-drying equipment;
  • Interfacing with local and international suppliers, ideally with proficiency in Japanese;
  • Prior experience with FAT, SAT of tools, and interfacing with cross-functional teams on equipment installation (i.e., facilities, controls).
Physical Requirements

This role requires long periods of standing in a laboratory environment, as well as the ability to lift, push, pull, and/or move objects up to 20 lbs. The employee must also pass a respirator fitment test and complete chem-/bio-safety training upon hiring.

Compensation

The estimated salary range for this position is between $141,100.00 and $211,700.00 per year, depending on location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for tier-based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO, sick time, 401K, and an employee relocation plan (if applicable).
