The Aspen Music Festival is seeking a skilled Theatrical Scenery Specialist to join its team for the upcoming 8-week summer season.
About the RoleThis dynamic individual will work under the supervision of the Production Manager to assist in the building, installation, and running of theatrical scenery for mainstage productions such as Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte and Puccini's La Boheme. The successful candidate will be responsible for constructing scenery according to shop drawings while utilizing time, materials, and tools efficiently.
The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of welding and rigging, although this is not essential. Previous experience in scenic construction for theatrical productions is required, and candidates must be comfortable with climbing stairs and ladders. A valid driver's license is also necessary, and a DMV check will be conducted for the selected candidate.
Key Responsibilities- Construct scenery as assigned according to shop drawings.
- Participate in load-in, running, and strike of AOTVA productions.
- Maintain and organize shop equipment and tools.
- Pursuing or graduated with a BA/BFA in Technical Theater with a concentration in scenic construction or technical direction.
- Previous experience in scenic construction for theatrical productions.
- A strong working knowledge of welding and rigging is advantageous but not required.
- Candidates must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and materials or greater weights with assistance.
The salary for this role is estimated at $15.50/hour plus additional benefits including AMFS season pass and paid sick time. Housing is provided by AMFS, valued at a minimum of $4.91/hour depending on location. Overtime pay is $23.25/hour.
