Overview

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer to join our team as a Railway Equipment Engineer - Design and Optimization. The purpose of this role is to design and optimize cranes and other equipment specifically tailored for rail industry use.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience with design and optimization software such as Solidworks. They will work closely with our team to develop accurate re-engineered crane structures, perform virtual prototyping, and solve technical problems.

Responsibilities
  1. Develops accurate re-engineered crane structures to determine adequate structural reinforcement, performance improvements, or powertrain overhauls.
  2. Rapid iterative virtual prototyping to determine optimum designs.
  3. Solves technical problems either individually or through collaboration with the engineering group and shop personnel as required.
  4. Quality of the design balancing functionality and physical constraints.
  5. Ability to adapt to dynamic building timelines due to reactive nature of rebuilding work, support emergency derailments with special lifting apparatus designs as necessary.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (EIT or PE preferred).
  • Experience working with Solidworks (CSWP or CSWA preferred) or similar parametric modeling software.
  • Experience with strengths and limitations of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and supporting results with engineering hand calculations.
  • Applied experience in analysis of engineering problems with skills in development of creative solutions.
  • Ability to research using various media and personal/professional networks in order to identify suppliers/vendors.
  • Demonstrated and practical experience in MS Office with particular emphasis on Excel.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills in order to self-manage daily tasks, meet deadlines, and ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned work.
Estimated Salary

$85,000 - $115,000 per year, depending on experience.
