Job Summary

This position will work closely with multi-disciplinary project teams to support environmental permitting, impact assessment, and due diligence efforts for various projects, including wind, solar, carbon capture/sequestration, power generation, linear infrastructure, and public works projects.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct various field studies, including habitat assessments, wildlife surveys, vegetation and noxious weed assessments, special status species presence/absence surveys, wetland delineations, environmental site assessments, collecting project-related field data, and preparing GIS data for map production.
  • Prepare technical reports such as species surveys, mitigation and monitoring plans, biological assessments, and impact statements.
  • Monitor environmental mitigation sites and conduct routine compliance oversight during active construction where sensitive or protected species or habitat may be present.
  • Develop project permitting strategies and support agency consultation efforts to comply with state and federal laws and regulations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field from an accredited program required. Completion of a master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • 4 years of experience performing environmental and site studies, preparing permitting applications, and analyzing environmental data for various environmental impact projects is required (5-6 years of related experience is preferred).
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification not required, but the ability to be certified is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory agencies governing biological and ecological resources, wetland, stream, ecological risks, and protected species assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods used for collection and analysis of environmental data, field investigation techniques, and statistical knowledge.
  • Ability to use creativity, problem-solving, and analytical skills to develop solutions for project challenges.
  • Valid driver's license required; must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position is $73,000-$93,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Burns & McDonnell offers competitive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.

Location and Schedule

Primary Location: US-MN-Minneapolis/St. Paul. Schedule: Full-time. Travel: Yes, up to 20% of the time.
