Peer Recovery Specialist

Spectrum Health Systems is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Peer Recovery Specialist to join our team at the Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake, VA. As a Peer Recovery Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing specialized treatment services to individuals with substance use disorder.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as an active facilitator in non-clinical groups, seminars, and meetings.
- Build therapeutic alliances and exercise trauma-informed care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of community resources to help meet offenders' unique recovery needs.
- Work cohesively with a multi-disciplinary team through all aspects of offenders' treatment and recovery.
- Document all encounters with offenders in CORIS.
- Encourage and support from a place of experience and understanding.
- Advocate for the needs of the offender and ensure that their individualized goals are being met in accordance with their assessed needs.
- Participate in training and educational activities to obtain certification (CSAC) and to remain current in knowledge of effective treatment methods.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- State certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) in the state of Virginia is required.
- Experience working in the substance abuse treatment field is preferred.
- Experience working within a correctional or secure environment is a plus.
- Experience working in Therapeutic Community model programs is a plus.
