The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a qualified Nursing Assistant to join our team at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center. This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our nation's veterans.

About the Job

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Nursing Assistant to provide direct care to complex, acute, primary care, and long-term patients/residents. As a member of our healthcare team, you will work closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that our patients receive the highest level of care.

Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities as a Nursing Assistant will include:

  • Safely and accurately performing personal care skills, including measuring and recording vital signs.
  • Measuring and recording intake and output, feeding techniques, non-sterile specimen collection, transfer, positioning, and turning techniques.
  • Working within your scope of practice, competency level, and the defined skills list for Nurse Aides for the Oklahoma City VAHCS.
  • Maintaining appropriate communication with patients, families, and other health care workers, using medical asepsis and universal precautions.
  • Documenting care given is inherent to the role.
  • Assisting with patient education and documentation of education provided.
  • Collecting Veteran data, participating in care planning, performing approved skills per orders or by protocol in accordance with the care planning.

Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must have:

  • One year of general experience in a healthcare setting, or equivalent education above high school.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Basic life support certification.
  • Pass a background check and security clearance.
